Tip 1

Locate main water isolation tap

Locate exactly where your main water isolation taps into your property are and have a practice run at turning them off. If you have a burst pipe inside your property, you will need to know exactly how to locate and turn this tap off as fast as possible to limit the water damage to your property.

Turn off water while away

If you intend going away for the weekend or for an extended holiday, we recommend turning your water off at the mains while you are away.

Tip 3

Inspect braided flexi-hoses

Inspect your braided flexi-hoses located underneath your kitchen sink, bathroom vanities, and laundry tub on a regular basis. If they are in poor condition, have your plumber change them out straight away.

Check silicon seal in shower

Make sure the silicon seal around the base of your shower floor recess is in good condition. If not, have your plumber re-silicon this area for you.

Make sure grouting condition is good

Inspect and make sure the grouting in your bathroom and shower wall tiles is in good condition. If not, we recommend you consider having them re-grouted.

Fix the smallest water lead asap

Address even the smallest water leak and have it rectified straight away. Whether it’s a leaking tap, a drip from the dishwasher or a small leak from the washing machine have these issues fixed as fast as possible.

Pay attention when filling sink or tub

Be mindful and keep your attention on the job when filling any sink or tub with water. This includes kitchen sinks, bathroom vanities, bathtubs and laundry tubs. You would be surprised at how many water damage jobs we attend due to water overflows from sinks and tubs.

Ensure no bathmat covers the drain holes

Be sure that no bathmat or other mat covers the drain holes in wet areas such as laundries and bathrooms

Check areas behind your bathroom

Keep an eye on all areas behind your bathrooms and shower areas throughout your house especially, if there is a built-in cupboard or built-in clothes wardrobe behind these areas.

Make sure the exhaust fan works

Ensure that all bathroom exhaust fans are working correctly and have the required capacity to dispel the wet air efficiently.

Keep gutters clean

Keep your gutters clean and clear of any built-up debris. This is a must, especially during winter or storm season.

Inspect your roof yearly

Have your roof inspected every 12 months or so for cracked or broken tiles and ensure that the pointing and flashings are all in good condition.

Make sure sewage pipes have not blockage

Ensure that your sewage pipes are free from blockages and that the wastewater is running freely out into the street connection. If you suspect any issues, it’s important to have them inspected immediately.

Regularly service the water purifier

If you have a water purifier installed, make sure it is serviced regularly, as per the manufacturer’s recommendations.
