Flood Fixers FAQs

Why is water damage restoration so important?

Professional water damage restoration is vital to mitigate and limit the damage that can be caused to your property due to a water damage event. If water damage is left untreated, the damage caused can go far beyond the original event, as mould can continue to grow unabated inside wall cavities for years. Structural materials can swell and become damaged, and the structural integrity of your property can be compromised, resulting in ongoing building issues.

Why is it best to act as fast as possible with water damage?

As excess water from a water damage event sits untreated on your property, it will continue to damage the materials it is sitting on, and it will continue to soak into the structural materials. The water and moisture will soak deeply into the Gyprock plaster, wall cavities and wall insulation. Moisture will also soak into concrete and timber sub-floors, making the structural drying process more difficult with every passing hour it is left untreated. The clock is also ticking with mould and bacterial issues. Once mould takes hold within the property, the amount of work required, the restoration costs, and the timeframe of the job completion will significantly increase.

When is the friendly team at Flood Fixers available to help me with my water damage disaster?

The answer to this question is ALWAYS. The team at Flood Fixers is on call and available to help our customers around the clock, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for emergency water damage disasters.

How long will a technician from Flood Fixers take to arrive at my property?

We will always attempt to attend to your property as quickly as possible. In most cases, we respond and begin heading to your property within the hour. In times of high demand, this may vary, but we will always do our best to assist you as soon as possible.

I have a wet carpet. Should I call my local carpet cleaner?

The answer is a big NO. When carpet is wet and has been flooded, the wet carpet is only part of the problem. It is important to understand that during a water damage event, the entire structure will be impacted, including walls, subfloors, and, in some cases, ceilings as well. Unfortunately, your local carpet cleaner is not trained or well-equipped to deal with structural drying processes.

Do all water damage restoration companies provide the same level of service?

The answer to this question is absolutely not. Unfortunately, in today’s environment many cleaning companies and carpet cleaning companies are simply doing a 2-day training course and entering the water damage restoration industry. They have limited knowledge, next to no experience and very little equipment to do the job properly. This is not what you want when your property is at risk of significant water damage and mould infestation due to a water damage event.

How much does water damage restoration cost?

Professional water damage restoration is about mitigating and saving overall costs and protecting the indoor air quality and the health of the home occupants. All water damage restoration situations are so vastly different it is literally impossible to put a price tag on restoration costs. Water damage restoration jobs can become quite involved and labour intensive and costs can add up. This is why the majority of the water damage jobs we do are covered by the property owner’s insurance. In most cases we can bill the insurance company directly for our service, leaving our valued customers with absolutely no out of pocket expenses.

My property has been flooded and water damaged. Should I ring my Insurance company straight away?

As the insurance policyholder, you are entitled to use the water damage restoration company of your choice to provide the required remediation services. When you engage the team at Flood Fixers, we will work 100% for you to ensure that your job is done properly and to ensure you receive all you are entitled to regarding your water damage Insurance claim. We can assist you with your Insurance claim and in most cases, we can bill your Insurance company directly for our services.

How long will it take to dry my property after it has been flooded?

This will all depend on the severity of the flooding and water damage and on what type of flooring and materials need to be dried. Typically, it will take us anywhere from 2 to 6 days to properly clean, structurally dry and remediate a flooded water damaged property.

Can wet carpets always be salvaged?

In most cases, if the water has originated from a clean source and we can attend to your job within a reasonable timeframe, we can save your wet carpets. If your carpets have been impacted by contaminated water or if there is mould present, then they will need to be disposed of.

I have visible mould on my property. What should I do?

If you have noticed visible mould, it’s best to avoid the area and contact Flood Fixers straight away so we can inspect and investigate the issue further for you.

I just arrived at work after a storm the night before, and there is water everywhere throughout our commercial property. What should I do?

If it is not raining outside, open the windows and doors to allow the wet air to escape. We recommend you proceed with caution and keep clear of the affected areas, as collapsing ceilings are common in commercial water damage scenarios such as this. Call the team at Flood Fixers straight away, and we can take care of this for you.
